Forensic Medicine Including Toxicology

Department Overview

The Department of Forensic Medicine including Toxicology is situated on the 4th floor of the Symbiosis Medical College for Women on the picturesque Lavale Hill-base Campus. The department contributes actively in the fields of education, research and medico-legal services. The department is equipped to educate the National and International Medical students in the subject of Forensic Medicine, Medical Jurisprudence including Toxicology and its applied aspects.

Experience

Dr Pradeep Gangadhar Dixit has worked in various Government Medical colleges of Maharashtra from 15th Oct 1985 till 7th April 2022 on various capacity as Assistant professor to Professor in Forensic Medicine & Toxicology. He retired as Dean of RCSM GMC Kolhapur. After serving as Prof & HOD in DY Patil Medical College Kolhpur , for 6 months,, joined this college as Professor in Forensic Medicine & Toxicology. He is Post graduate teacher for MD (FMT). During assistant Professorship in Government Medical College, Nagpur, he did his postgraduate course in Pathology. He passed Post Graduate Diploma in Medico-Legal System (PGDMLS) from Symbiosis International University, Pune. As Coordinator of Medical Education Unit, he conducted various workshops & training courses for faculties of Medical & allied medical sciences and also worked as faculty of these workshops. He is student of first batch of Advance Course in Medical Education recognized by MCI (now NMC). He conducted various complicated medicolegal postmortem and helped investigation agencies in solving various crimes. He is useful asset to law enforcing agencies by participating in advisory sessions & conduction of training programs for police officers and advocates and also honorable judges. He has keen interest in Forensic Pathology.

While working in government institutes, he received various awards for good administrative work. On 15th Sept 2024, he was awarded with “Distinguished Professor Award” from National Organization of “Applied Forensic Research Science”

Research Interest & Publications:

  • While working in government institutes, he received various awards for good administrative work. On 15th Sept 2024, he was awarded with “Distinguished Professor Award” from National Organization of “Applied Forensic Research Science” .
  • Published more than 50 scientific research papers in various indexed journals.

Outreach Activities

  • Actively involved in deciding medico-legal policy of government hospitals.
  • Actively involved in upgradation of mortuaries in government hospitals in Maharashtra.
  • Acted as Chairman of Student council while working as Professor in GMC, Nagpur
  • Represented Vidarbha Kho-Kho team in National tournaments and University team in Intervarsity Tournaments.
  • Acted as Coach for MUHS team of Kho-Kho for intervarsity tournaments.

Infrastructure Facilities

Infrastructure fulfills all the minimum standard requirements and facilities as advised in NMC guidelines. Department library contains total 85 books including all the recent editions of textbooks, reference books and allied subject books.
