The Respiratory Medicine department is situated on the 5th floor of building no 3 in Symbiosis Medical College for Women on the picturesque Lavale Hill-base Campus.
The department contributes actively in the fields of education, research and clinical service. The department is equipped to educate the National and International Medical students, to provide quality healthcare for respiratory illness patients and to conduct various National & International Research Project.
The Department of Respiratory Medicine will be preeminent in clinical care, academic teaching & research activities.

Dr Meenakshi has over 10 years of experience after post-graduation in academics, teaching, research, administration including work experience in B.J. Govt. Medical College & Sassoon General Hospital. Presently she is serving as Professor and the officiating In-charge Head of the Department of Respiratory Medicine, at Symbiosis Medical College for Women Pune.
Dr. Meenakshi has clinical experiences have allowed her to work with patients suffering from a wide range of pulmonary conditions, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, pulmonary fibrosis, and tuberculosis. she has seen first-hand the profound impact that respiratory diseases can have on an individual's quality of life, and driven to help patients manage their conditions effectively, improving their health outcomes and overall well-being.
In addition to her clinical work, she has actively contributed to research in pulmonology, with a focus on pulmonary rehabilitation, chronic respiratory diseases, and tuberculosis. She has been privileged to serve as a co-investigator in several international multi-centre trials, such as the Global RECHARGE Project with the University of Leicester, funded by a UK NIHR grant, which focuses on pulmonary rehabilitation for COPD patients, the COVID Steroid Trial and the COVID Anticoagulant Trial (ASCOT), and am currently leading the TB PURE Project, in collaboration with Johns Hopkins University, funded by a US NIH grant to explore pulmonary rehabilitation in active pulmonary TB patients. These experiences have not only deepened understanding of the pathophysiology and treatment of pulmonary diseases but also refined her skills in conducting evidence-based research and translating findings into clinical practice.
The multidisciplinary nature of pulmonology is what excites her the most. It requires a combination of strong diagnostic skills, compassion, and a thorough understanding of the latest medical advancements.. She is particularly passionate about working with patients who suffer from chronic respiratory conditions, as she believe that a proactive, patient-centred approach can significantly improve long-term health outcomes.
She is continually doing research work in the field of Respiratory Medicine and has published articles in reputed journals for access to students and peers. She always updates herself by undertaking courses and attending lectures and workshops related to her subject & research.
Department of Respiratory Medicine is situated at 5th floor building no 3. It provides separate cabins for all faculties like Professor, Associate Professor, and Assistant Professor& Residents.
It has department office with area for non-teaching staff. Department library cum seminar room are among other infrastructure facilities available in the Department.
Outpatient department is situated in building no 3 ground floor OPD No.8. It has 4-examination room, patient waiting area, demonstration room. OPD also includes facilities like NTEP room & PFT room.
Department provides specialty clinics for Asthma, COPD, ILD. & established DOTS center under National Tuberculosis Elimination Program.
Department provides state of art in patient services including facilities of separate Male & Female wards, procedure room, treatment room, duty doctors room, pantry, nursing station etc. Separate Isolation wards for Tuberculosis Patient in both male & female wards
In wards central oxygen facility & central suction system are provides.

SMCW hereby clarifies that the advertisement currently being circulated is not issued, authorized, endorsed, or approved by SMCW or Symbiosis International (Deemed University).
SMCW does not authorize any individual, agent, consultant, or external agency to guarantee, facilitate, or secure admissions on its behalf.
Admissions to SMCW are conducted strictly in accordance with the regulations and guidelines prescribed by the National Medical Commission (NMC), MCC, and the competent regulatory authorities.
