Medical Education Unit (MEU) of Symbiosis Medical College for Women (SMCW) and Symbiosis University Hospital and Regional Centre (SUHRC) organized a 2-day Curriculum Implementation Support Program (CISP) – II, sensitization workshop on 27th & 28th August 2020 under the aegis of regional center; Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) Pune, monitored by Col. Dr. Subhash Shaw. The workshop was attended by 29 participants’ and 10 resource faculty from MEU.
Taking in account the current pandemic scenario; the workshop was organized considering the social distancing norms, and provision of preventive measures. All participants and resource faculties were wearing mask during the entire workshop. The program was inaugurated by honorable Chief Executive Officer (CEO) -SUHRC Dr. Vijay Natarajan and Officiating Dean SMCW, Dr. Vaishaly Bharambe.
Participants were provided with the required learning resources in hand before the workshop itself as per the directions from the regional center, pretest was conducted before workshop. Appropriate learning facilities with AV aids were arranged at the venue.
The inaugural function was followed by icebreaking session and introduction of participants from each group; this session was followed by other sessions such as, Competency based medical education (CBME), IMG: Goals, roles &Competencies, deriving objectives from competencies, linking competency objectives to Teaching Learning Methods (TLM), Graduate Medical Education Regulations (GMER) 2019, Electives, Foundation Course and Early Clinical Exposure and AETCOM module discussion on day one.
Student Doctor -Clinical Teaching, Alignment and Integration, Skills training, Assessment in CBME, Aligning assessment to competency objectives & TLM, Curricular governance, Feedback and Open House, and Valedictory / Post-test session on day two. The entire workshop was meticulously planned as per the standard guidelines provided by the regional center.
The sessions were made more interesting by providing the hands on training and planned activities, which ensured active learner participation. Entire MEU team was enthusiastically involved in planning and managing the workshop. The workshop was monitored by MCI observer online throughout. The observer in his concluding remarks expressed his happiness for attending the workshop, he appreciated the entire MEU team for the time bound smooth conduct of the workshop providing an entirely unique learning experience to all participants including himself.
Symbiosis Medical College is the first medical college in Maharashtra to initiate the process of conducting CISP 2 workshop under aegis of regional center which is indeed an achievement for all of us.
