The Department of Microbiology is situated on the 3rd floor of Symbiosis Medical College for Women on the picturesque Lavale hill base campus. The department is well equipped to educate the national and international medical students in all branches of microbiology.

Name:- Dr. Kalpana M Angadi
   MBBS, MD (Microbiology)

Dr. Kalpana M Angadi has obtained her MBBS degree from Mahadevappa Rampure Medical College, Gulbarga, Karnataka. She has obtained her MD Microbiology degree from the premier medical Institute of India acknowledged as a center of excellence for education and research, the Armed Forces Medical college, Pune. Presently she is serving as the officiating Head of the Department of Microbiology at Symbiosis Medical college for Women at Pune.

Experience:

She has over 22 years of experience in academics, teaching, research and hospital infection control activities

Achievements:

She has served as an examiner in several universities for both Undergraduate and Post Graduate Medical, Dental, Nursing, Physiotherapy, and other allied branches. She has guided several post graduate students in their research work.

Her field of interests are Bacteriology, Mycology and Hospital Infection control.

She is the RT PCR Laboratory Director at SMCW.

Infrastructure facilities


The department has a well-equipped experimental microbiology laboratory with facilities for audio visual assisted learning, well equipped with the required number of microscopes, slides required for staining purposes etc. for teaching and learning various subjective skills. The department has a research laboratory with various advanced instruments research purposes. 

The department also hosts a departmental library with numerous books and journals of the subject and domain. Seminar room with audio visual aids where seminars Journal Clubs and micro teaching are carried out. Museum of the department displays charts and models depicting information on various parasitological specimens, fungal specimens etc.

The demonstration room of the department is well equipped with audio visual aids for the purpose of demonstration of practical and tutorials in the subjects.

The departmental hallway has charts of microbiologists and Nobel Prize winning scientists. The department has a well-equipped NABL accredited RT-PCR lab, research lab, immunology lab, bacteriology labs, mycology labs etc.
